For patients in the mixed dentition (Ages 6-10 years)

Myobrace®for Kids is a three-stage appliance system used in the mixed dentition and also includes the K0 appliance which is used prior to the three-stage system in chronic mouth breathers, especially during sleep. This appliance range is the most commonly used in Myobrace® treatment as there is an ideal balance between sufficient craniofacial growth remaining and the patient being old enough to maximise compliance.

Establish a functional airway and habit correction

The Myobrace®K0 focuses on establishing a functional airway and initial tongue strengthening in mouth breathing children, especially during sleep. It’s unique feature is a large, collapsible breathing hole which initially opens the oral airway while transitioning to nasal breathing. The active tongue tag strengthens the tongue, further improving breathing function. Since almost all children with malocclusion are mouth breathers, most patients in the mixed dentition will require this appliance. Move to the K1 when the K0 is staying in overnight and breathing function tests have improved.

The design features of the K0 are ideally suited for patients who are chronic mouth breathers, especially during sleep.

• Myofunctional Variable Opening Sleep Aperture is a large collapsible breathing hold which first establishes a functional airway, and then helps to begin the transition to nasal breathing
• Thick base opens the bite and helps to advance the lower jaw, opening the airway further
• Lip Bumper discourages overactive lip muscles during a reverse swallow
• Active tongue tag encourages correct tip of the tongue positioning while exercising and strengthening the tongue muscles
• Tongue elevator encourages the body of the tongue to rest in the roof of the mouth
• High sides hold the soft tissues away, promoting the arch development while optimising appliance retention
